- Prosecutors say he didn’t check his gun and didn’t follow weapons training
- Halyna’s parents are expected to give more information today
The parents and sister of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins are suing Alec Baldwin, claiming the cinematographer would have brought them to the US when war broke out in Ukraine if she was alive.
The Hutchins family is being represented by Gloria Allred who announced today at a press conference that they are seeking damages from Baldwin in Los Angeles.
Halyna’s mother Olga, is a nurse treating the war wounded, while her sister Svetlana, struggles at home with her two young kids while her husband fights on the front lines.
The family had not filed any immigration case or visa request, but their attorneys say Halyna ‘would not have allowed them’ to stay in the war if she was still alive.
‘She would have brought them to the US when it was possible,’ said Allred.

In a recorded statement, Halyna’s sister Svetlana said: ‘To lose my sister was a horrible experience and one of the biggest losses of my life.
‘Even more devastating is to see the utter suffering of our parents and how their health has sharply declined,’ Svetlana said in a pre-recorded statement.
‘It is for this reason that I’d like those who are at fault for somebody to carry that responsibility not just someone – but that very someone who is truly responsible.
‘To let this go and let this be unpunished is unallowable,’ she added.
Allred said Baldwin has never contacted the family to apologize to them for shooting Halyna dead.
‘We are now representing others in the family – mom, dad and sister.
There has been no settlement for them, there has been no outreach to them by Mr. Baldwin to even say he was sorry. We want accountability and justice for them.’

Baldwin has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and is awaiting his first court appearance.
The family filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging battery and loss of consortium – which seeks compensation for damages to relationships.
Baldwin previously settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Halyna’s widower Matthew, making him an executive producer on the movie when it resumed production.
The new lawsuit comes after prosecutors in New Mexico shared search warrants and probable cause affidavits against Baldwin that claim he was not paying attention in weapons training, and that he did not check the gun he was holding before firing it towards Hutchins’ direction.
Baldwin has always maintained his innocence, and says her death was a tragic mistake but not a criminal one.
He has vowed to fight the charges.
He remains in New York City awaiting his first court appearance, which will happen virtually.
